I thought VHS was the first to allow 2-hrs of video taping on one cassette?
This meant a full TV movie could be taped. AFAIR Beta took several months to
"catch up" but by then it was too late.

No, you can sell a ton of product and make money EVEN though the product
is not that good. The Beta vs VHS "war" is an example. Beta is a far
superior system, but was trounced by one that was "just good enough"
for the great unwashed masses. The same goes in Mac OS vs. Windows;
Windows is "just good enough".
