I have no idea, well I know what it is, but don't have one or how to use
it. The Belkin Adapter does has the diagnostic lights and when I tap the
connect, on the Belkin it shows the RX blip 4 times with about a second
delay between blips. This seemed odd to me, like it should have been the
TX light...

For oddball serial stuff like this, I usually whip out a break-out-box
or
serial protocol analyzer. It could be something like you need your RX
and
TX lines reversed.
