Nope, I use the imap service with a dial-up from Australia (which I
presume wouldn't be the fastest location to access the .mac.com server)
and have never had any problems, esp the ones you have mentioned.

an e-mail it is striked thru after a few seconds. But after
reading further down and deleting more e-mails suddenly all striked thru
mails will be resettled to unread. The only solution to get really rid
of
msgs is to purge quickly each time after deleting.
