In general, it is fine as the battery packs are not Li-ion which can be very tricky given the right conditions.  Ni-Cad or Ni-Mh batteries are much more stable in comparison.  I have ordered them many times via USPS.  Li-ion though always come by UPS or Fed-Ex as the USPS won't handle them.
