Hey Tommy:

I never got NewtChat to go beyond what you are seeing. The reason is
changes to AOL's Oscar protocol which broke the client.

I did, however, get NewtIM working:

You'll find all the information in that blog post as well as some
links I include. NewtIM is available from Unna. It's a Jabber client,
but using your desktop computer to get the client configured allows
you to use a conduit to talk to your AOL buddies.
