That should be 'imaginary' number. An irrational number has a non repeating series of decimal digits. Pi for example or
e.
The square root of -1 has no real number value so it is given an imaginary value. The letter i or j is used to represent
it.
It is used quite a lot in electronics, especially AC circuits.
