The emate is a Newton. They connect the same way and have both the
serial port and a Newton Interconnect port (same cover for both, slide
the cover one way covers the serial, the other covers the newton
interconnect, and in the middle covers both). By the way, they are both
serial ports, just the connectors are different.
You can dock with the IR port, at least I have heard of people doing it.
But you need software on the Newt to do it. So you still need to
connect via serial first to get the software on the Newt. Unless you
have someone install it on a card for you with their Newt and send you
the card.
