I'm trying to connect Escale too.... got it working through serial
with the keyspan connector which is fine; but am now trying
ethernet/ graphite airport and in the process sorting through points
of trouble - and reading.
So what is APBS??? (You should try to Google Newton and APBS.
Interesting. all points bulletins. anti-phase breathers. Association
for Positive Behavior Support).
- Oh all right, I see it now: AirPortBaseStation. That was stupid.
Oh, well... The next one is probably worse:
How do I get to my Newtons Appletalk Browser? I cannot figure out
which application (that I have) would be set up to look for another
computer via appletalk. I can get it to look for printers, but since
I have none on the net, I cannot use that as part of my 'where is the
problem'-search. In:
Re: [NTLK] Package Installs and Backups in OS X
Technoir Support <technoir () sympatico ! ca> wrote :"yes i have the
same problem with escale. AppleTalk works fine over ethernet, but
TCP/IP fails after an attempt to reach the server, even though it
shows in the chooser."
This sort of indicates that on both the PowerBookG4 and on the Newton
I should be able to select either a TCP/IP connection OR an appletalk
conection - where both would be using the same means of information
transport (wifi waves from the card to the BaseStation and on over to
the other card.. sort of?) But I must be missing something because in
system preferences on the G4 (OSX 10.3.2) the two are not alternates.
It is TCP/IP with appletalk active or not. On the Newton I can set
my Awaya(Orinoco) Wireless PC card to use appletalk (and I have), and
I can select the TCP as connection method in the Dock (with the
Escale module transferred with NewTen :)). That seems very equivalent
on the G4 and Newt, but there is no connection.... So I wanted to see
if the Newton could see the Mac. Hence the 'where is my appletalk
browser-' question.
Also, should my Mac be able to see the Newton? If I select 'Go->
Servers' in Finder, should the Newton be there if it is turned on and
the Awaya card is in? It is not.
But it could easily be something with the base station connection,
'cause I cannot email. When I set up the Internet connection similar
to the one on the mac (DHCP), Eudora hangs with the message "Problem
connecting. DHCP server unavailable or unable to configure this
device." So the Newt is not getting through to the base station? The
Base station is WEP encoded/crypted/whichever. I am using Hiroshis
driver 1.06; it allows for WEP encryption by me. I believe. At least
for the trial period...
The firewall is "off" in system prefs-sharing on the G4, some posts
indicated that as an issue.
So I'm kind of lost......
