I've used a DC to AC inverter like that for quite a while. Works very
well with both models of the Newton power adapter I have.

I have a small console between the 2 front seats in my car (Dodge
shadow). There's a kind of glovebox/tape storage there now, but I'm
removing the lid and putting in a power panel w/ 2 AC outlets, 2 DC
outlets, 4 100baseT ethernet ports wired into a passive hub, and a pair
of serial ports (RJ45 style) so I can plug stuff in over there, instead
of having it all around my dash board. the serial ports will actually
lead TO the dash, to the holder I have for my Newton.

thus, I can more easily use my Newton for GPS maps.
