Hi Folks,
Just received my 3com 3C589D card. My setup at home is:
* iMac G4 running 10.3
* Encore NWay Switching Hub
* Newton 2000 now with ethernet.
I installed NIE, Newton Devices, Faralon Driver, 3com Patch, Dock
TCP/IP. Created two setups, one with DHCP and one manual.
Using the prefs pannel of MacOS X I choosed to share internet
connection.
When I create the internet setup everything appears fine! The picker
show 3 cards including my 3com 589D...
The problem is, wherever I try to use TCP/IP the newton or complains
that DHCP is not there or if using manual setup, it keeps probing for
info and never wake up and end up locking the NewtonOS... I the hub
only one led appears, the Link Activity one, the 100M one is off (but
thats ok since the card is 10baseT) and the FDX/COL is off (I don't
know if this is good or bad).
for my manual setup I typed ifconfig at the terminal and received this
info:
lo0: flags=8049<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 16384
inet6 ::1 prefixlen 128
inet6 fe80::1 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x1
inet 127.0.0.1 netmask 0xff000000
gif0: flags=8010<POINTOPOINT,MULTICAST> mtu 1280
stf0: flags=0<> mtu 1280
en0: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
inet6 fe80::203:93ff:fe6d:12e prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x4
inet 200.255.73.172 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 200.255.73.255
inet 192.168.2.1 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.2.255
ether 00:03:93:6d:01:2e
media: autoselect (100baseTX <full-duplex>) status: active
supported media: none autoselect 10baseT/UTP <half-duplex>

tunnel inet -->
lladdr 00:03:93:ff:fe:6d:01:2e
media: autoselect <full-duplex> status: inactive
supported media: autoselect <full-duplex>
so I choosed for the newt:
IP: 192.168.2.3
DNS: 200.255.40.10 (my isp nameserver)
Alt DNS: 192.168.2.1 (if my machine will forward name server
requests...)
Gateway Router: 192.168.2.1
Mask: 255.255.255.0
now, can anyone point what I am doing wrong? Courrier never fetches the
pages, SimpleMail too, escale connected (maybe, I think it switched to
the serial connection since both cables were attached), delivery never
connect... using rendevouz never rings a bell...
Need Help Please, I know the ethernet page on chuma from inside out! I
am not a tech newbie, I am a frustrated tech savvy user, I can't think
anything more... I used the same setup I use with my BeOS Box, why it
doesn't work? (of course beos box is down while trying to connect with
the newt)
Thanks in advance
