One of the first things you'll have to clear up is making analogies between
the Newt and desktop/laptop computers. Your proposal fails from the start
because there are no data files on the Newt. Instead it's all a very
object-oriented, databasey sort of thing (called soups). So, to the best of
my knowledge, NCU doesn't work by shipping a data file (as such) between the
desktop and the Newt.
I believe a viable (not to mention FASTER) alternative would be to get an
ethernet card and transfer the info to your desktop that way. If you're on
a Windows machine someone else could better tell you how to work that magic,
as I don't do Windows.
