To answer your 2nd question, yes and no. There is a driver floating on the
net that lets you use an old Lucent WaveLan card in ad-hoc mode, i.e.
connecting to a computer acting as a software base station. AFAIK, nobody
was able so far to connect to an actual AirPort Base Station.
