James,
I've noticed this to be the case with my phones at work. It turns
out that the newer digital phone systems will not response to DMTF
tones. This is typically done now as a security measure to keep
people from hacking corporate phone systems.

For some reason I can never dial a phone using the Newt's speaker. I
tell the Newt to dial using the speaker and then hold it near the mic
on the phone. All I get is a dial tone. I am missing something?

All work and no play makes James a dull boy and prevents this week's
update.
