hi chris and all others!
having read the interesting tech article on speech input on the newt 2000 in
NTJ, i must say they were ahead of its time!
from what i understood, the dragon demo app must be of a limited vocabulary.
nevertheless, it should be possible to add more 'acoustic modules' if
necessary (if you have the source, that is)
also, in the tech documentation, they confirm there needs to be a pre-amp
involved in the speech recognition, the built-in mic will unfortunately not
generate a signal of sufficient quality. with an external mic, the dev team
managed to get 98% correct recognition in a quiet environment.
is there a slighteeeeest possibility they might release the source? afaik,
the pkg is based on dragons C-REC recognition engine, which was specially
re-coded for the newton. (among others, software emulation of a floating
-point instruction set.) it would be very strange if they wouldnt let this
work to the community after all this time, since it should be useless on
other platforms.
also in the article, they speak about various dev tools to be released in
the nearest future, this written in february 1997, a year before the newt
execution. can anyone that has thie demo pkg installed see what date it is
from? maybe the dev tools named in the article exist?
