I swore to myself that I wouldn't get involved in this, but I can't stop
myself.
This past summer I bought a CD/MP3 player, as my 4 year old Sony Discman
had departed to a higher plane of consumer electronics existance. My Soul
Player (www.soulplayer.com) plays normal audio CDs. It also plays ISO9660
format CDs with MP3 or WMA audio files on it. It will read song
information form the ID3 tags in MP3 files. I arrange the files as I like
on my computer first, using normal directories, and then I can navigate
using the LCD on my player. I have a CD burner, of course :) I don't
have to worry about:
-multiple devices for multiple formats
-slow transfer rates to upload songs to my device
-my device becoming obsolete (well, I guess MP3s might go away, but I have
a lot of audio CDs as well. Besides, there are firmware upgrades)
This necessitates that I don't care about my device being super-small, of
course.
