Your original MP can be useful but cannot run NOS higher than 1.05
To install packages on it, you will run a serial cable between your laptop and the MP. You need software called Newton Connection kit (not Newton Connection Utilities which is for 2.0 machines ).

The best FAQ for these older machines is found at the Michigan State Palmtop users Group.

The best site for NOS 1.0 software is the Newton FTP site at
www. amug .org.
