Great piece in the new Red Herring (1/2002) about John Carmack of Id
Software. He refuses to adopt the Microsoft standard for graphics in games.
He is very successful and is according to the piece a techno purist who so
advocates openness that according to a grumbling Otto Berkes, a Microsoft
Program Manager, "Its almost like a religion for him".
Carmack also states that making more money is not his major motivation, hence
his company stays small and self-funded.
A great piece and a definite read. What that there were more people like him
in business today.
