The one SRAM card I have owned had a thumbnail slot in the top of the
card for removing the battery. This could be very easily achieved
while the card was in the Newton. After I erased the card the first
time (oops) I figured this trick out myself. Of course different
cards can be different. How does one get to your particular battery
slot?
