My first reaction would be to explore what replacing u0022 with say, u0023
or u0024 did - I suspect these are analogous to ASCII codes, with the slash
being some kind of control character? You might then be able to build up a
table of codes, and a corresponding set of scripts that surrounded selected
text with those characters.

I might try this tonight...
