Err, I don't know where you get that idea from...
Having had the same thing happen to my Newton, and knowing what the
innards are like, the chances are very high that a high density surface
mount connector has snapped off the board.

If, indeed, it has snapped off (and I can't imagine any way that it could
not be that) then you'll need some surface mount soldering gear to
re-attach it. super glue will _not_ work. Hot air reflow stuff starts
off at $500 or so.

Sorry for being so negative, but honestly unless you have access to very
good tools your only realistic choice is Apple's repair, which is very,
very reasonably priced IMHO. Either that or the mp2k was horribly
overpriced originally...
