I have the same driver but no DOTG card. A couple are for sale on eBay now,
so maybe I can get one for a reasonable price. They used to be $299, a
little steep for a modem.
BTW, according to the folks at Qualcomm, the DOTG drivers were never
upgraded to allow for CDMA digital data. The drivers are landline at 33.6
and CDPD analog cellular at 9.6. CDMA digital data connects wirelessly at
19.2. Using their PC driver, the modem can sense when the phone is analog or
digital and switch its connection method (I gather). Their Newton drivers
don't do this and according to their tech support head, Jim George, there
are no plans to upgrade them. He said they would be willing to work with a
Newton developer though. Anyone out there willing to give it a try?!
I am trying to connect through my serial/interconnect port via CDMA data on
my QCP-860 phone (aka slimphone, QCP-1960, QCP-2760). With this
configuration the modem is on the network side (in my case Bell Atlantic)
and the wireless phone is like a really long serial cable connecting to
their modems. To me it seems like this configuration is ideal for us
Newtonites because it doesn't involve a battery-consuming modem, only a less
battery-consuming serial connection.
The problem is I can't get the modem strings to work. It comes close -- it
dials out on the phone and begins to handshake but drops somewhere near or
during authentication. My guess is that I need to put something else in the
modem string, but without diagnostics and little technical background it's
tough to figure out what that is.
Anyway, I was hoping some Newtontalker had given this a try. I recall
reading about someone using Bell Canada writing the list several months ago.
Maybe he's still out there?
