If I were you, I'd remove ALL case components before painting. This way,
there is far less chance of internal components getting painted.

I've never actually tried painting a Newt, but I would imagine that an
acrylic/latex paint should work. You'd have to rough up the surface first,
of course. The only real issue I can think of with painting a Newt is: Heat.
The case would be slightly more insulating, and therefore heat would not be
dissipated to the same extent as before painting.
