Bill,

Did you try to remove those packages and try to re-install them from a known
good package? I guess that when you restored, all the packages were also
restored, right? You might want to try that. The error message basically means
that the package didn't read the data it was expecting.

Just FYI, when I want to eliminate fragmentation on my internal memory store, I
usually do a FULL backup, both information and packages are backed up. Then, I
do the hard reset. I then proceed to re-install all the packages I had. Finally,
I restore only the information from the backup. There is a checkbox when you
click "Restore" that lets you restore or not the applications/packages. I always
disable this, since when I restore, the packages are already there.

I'm doing this to reduce the possibility of fragmentation. I am assuming that
since I first install the packages, they will all be stored contiguously on the
internal memory, and that is fine, since they shouldn't change. Then, I restore
the backup. These are more volatile information. This way, if any fragmentation
occurs, it will be in the data part. The first part of the internal memory
shouldn't change (since the packages can't be modified), so there shouldn't be
any fragmentation there. The worst case is when you add/delete information, then
install a new package, then add/delete information, then delete a package,
add/delete, install pkg, etc. You would probably end up with a fragmented memory
pretty quickly.

Anyway, just my $0.02. Back to your problem, remove any NewtWorks packages (that
is usually 'Works' in 'Unfiled Icons' and 'QFNewtWorks:donv' in 'Extensions').
Try to re-install both packages.
